Robert Iger’s The Ride of a Lifetime is a deeply inspiring leadership textbook. As Disney’s helmsman, Iger uses his personal experiences to demonstrate what true leadership means.

What moved me most was Iger’s humility and learning spirit. He honestly admits he wasn’t a born leader but grew into his role through continuous learning, reflection, and growth. His principle of “hiring people better than yourself” made me reconsider my own growth path. Coming from rural China, I deeply understand personal limitations, but as Iger shows, acknowledging weaknesses and seeking help is actually a sign of strength.

The decision-making processes behind acquiring Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm showcase an excellent leader’s strategic vision and execution ability. Iger wasn’t bound by tradition but dared to break conventions and embrace change. This reminded me of the choices I’ve made in my educational journey—every decision to step out of my comfort zone has been an opportunity for growth.

Iger’s four leadership principles—”honesty, integrity, optimism, and courage”—apply not only to business but serve as life guidelines. Particularly “optimism” has helped me maintain a positive attitude when facing difficulties. After reading this book, I’m more convinced that regardless of one’s background, maintaining a learning mindset and daring to take responsibility can lead anyone to extraordinary achievements.

From a rural village to academic pursuits, I’ve learned that great leaders aren’t born—they’re made through perseverance, humility, and an unwavering commitment to growth.
